UAE Celebrates 79th Indian Independence Day with Grand Tributes

The United Arab Emirates marked the 79th Indian Independence Day on August 15, 2025, with grand celebrations, official ceremonies, cultural performances, and landmark tributes honoring both India’s legacy and the vibrant Indian expat community in the UAE.

Ceremonies began at dawn, with Indian Ambassador Sunjay Sudhir hoisting the Indian tricolour at the Embassy in Abu Dhabi, and Consul General Satish Kumar Sivan leading the celebrations at the Consulate in Dubai. Embassies and community centres across all seven emirates participated. The diplomats read excerpts from President Droupadi Murmu’s address, emphasizing India-UAE friendship and the record achievements of the Indian community, which numbers over 4.3 million in the UAE and plays a crucial role across business, healthcare, education, and technology.

The official flag hoisting was followed by colorful cultural shows celebrating India’s unity in diversity. Participants enjoyed classical dances, patriotic songs, and art exhibitions, including tribal art displays and thematic exhibits on India’s journey to independence and contributions in counter-terrorism. Children arrived dressed in tricolour attire and performed onstage, reflecting a strong sense of cultural identity and pride.

A highlight of the day was Dubai’s Burj Khalifa lighting up in the Indian tricolour—a symbolic tribute witnessed by large crowds gathered near the iconic tower. Other UAE landmarks also joined in illuminating the cityscape in saffron, white, and green, underlining the deep connections between the two nations.

The festivities were organized not only by official Indian missions but also by business and expat groups, such as the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), which hosted landmark events featuring new initiatives, networking, and sustainability programmes.

These celebrations were a powerful display of the enduring India-UAE partnership—a relationship built on mutual respect and shared aspirations—as well as the pride and patriotism of the Indian diaspora in their home away from home.
